:. Introduction .:

If you want to do some extreme overclocking with air coolers there is not a lot of fans that you can actually purchase to push enough air at the heatsink, unless you choose this fan; the Delta fan. Things are currently changing because more companies are taking into consideration that people care more about their CPU temperature and cooling than their ears.

:. Vantec Tornado 80mm and 92mm Fans  .:

When I received the two versions of Vantec's Tornado fans, I was amazed that Vantec made such monsters because I know them as a company that makes very low-noise fans and products. It looks like Vantec also want a piece of the cake in the overclocking market and we will see if their fans (that come in two sizes for now: the 80mm (TD8038H) and the 93mm (TD9238H)) are good enough. The two major things people will notice about these fans is the fact that Vantec has not dealt with high performance fans before. Yet, the Tornado fans are an amazing 38 mm in depth compared to 25mm that you will see in regular 80mm or 92mm fans. You might be wondering why this is and it is because they have made special wind guides to help improve the air flow and direct the wind efficiently. When we are dealing with 84+ cubic feet per minute of air flow, that's a lot of air that has to be directed in the right direction.

These fans are all about air flow and they are made only for the hardcore overclockers who are used to loud fans (like myself). The 80mm has an incredible 84.1 cubic feet per minute of air flow at 55.2 decibels. Moreover, the 92mm has an amazing 119 cubic feet per minute of air flow at only 56.4 decibels. You might be thinking that's amazing that the 92mm fan can do 119 CFM, but the price you have to pay for such amazing CFM is the noise: most are fine with the it but there are also those that wont be able to handle it.

Vantec was also nice enough to include everything you need to make sure that when you get your fan, you can install it right away without purchasing any extra items. Vantec has included screws, 3-pin connector to monitor the fan, and also a metal finger guard because I am positive if your finger gets caught in the fan when its running, its going to get very ugly, very fast.

I decided to test the fans in my case and also on the Thermalright SLK-800 heatsink. I have a Lian Li with already some nice cooling in it. When I installed the 80mm Tornado fan in the front the temperature in the case dropped about 8C and my CPU temperature dropped about 5C. After being amazed with those temperatures I put the 80mm Tornado fan on the SLK-800 and my CPU load temperature was at 36C (AMD XP 1533GHZ @ 1715Ghz. That temperature seems fairly low and considering that my CPU was overclocked with that temperature reading, that is an incredible reading.
