Today, one of the most important things to do is to
backup your hard drive since viruses and computer problems are a common
threat. Everyone should do it, especially if you have important documents on your computer or
have home videos, mp3's, and other media you would hate to lose. This is where you have to start looking at external hard drives because who
really wants to waste their time with multiple CD-RW disks.
External drives are no where near being new to the PC market but thanks to USB 2.0 they are now faster and cheaper than Firewire external drives.
These drives are easy to setup and easy to move from the office to your house and
are also durable compared to a regular hard drive.
When I first had a look at the Personal Storage Unit I was amazed how durable it looked
and felt. The construction of the outer case was great, not only is the  product constructed with detail, but also the
pack etching made it look like no other computer product. Maxtor used a
sturdy plastic mold to keep the
unit undamaged while transporting. Most companies use cheap packaging to
send off their products but I noticed that Maxtor had not adopted this
cost-saving technique, which is better for the consumer. Everything is included to make sure when you open the box you can just connect it and start using your new personal storage unit.
Unlike other companies, Maxtor includes a USB cable in with this drive. After I was done having a look at the 3000LE I went straight to the computer and connected everything.
The set up process was incredibly easy and also the software they provide
installed without incident. Once everything was connected and the installation was done, I connected the USB
and the hard drive was online. I immediately noticed how quiet this drive is compared to normal hard drives and after I dragged some files over to the unit (20GB - Total), I noticed that the drive does not
heat up as doe's my internal Maxtor 40GB hard drive. |
